Francisco Behr, AIA
Francisco is the President and Director of Design for the Award winning firm BBA Architecture in Westlake Village, California. He has 40 years of planning and design experience in commercial, retail, and mixed use projects.
He has been responsible for designing and entitling some of the largest and most significant projects in Ventura County such as the Seventh Day Adventist Specific Plan in Newbury Park, the 2800 acre mixed-use “The Canyons” Plan in Simi Valley, and the 30 acre Westlake Park Place ofice complex in Westlake Village.
He enjoys participating in Urban Design charretes. He was invited to be on multidisciplinary design charrette teams by the cities of New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Petersburg, VA; Kingsman, AZ; Helena, AK; Seattle, WA; and many others. Francisco received a National Service Award from the American Institute of Architects for his pro-bono services in these workshops.
He was the design review consultant for Dos Vientos Ranch in Thousand Oaks and he helped the City of Westlake Village's Planning Department review the larger developments such as the Russell Ranch Road Retail Center development. He also helped the City of Thousand Oaks write their parking structure ordinance. He has been on the Executive Board of the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and was one of the first 100 founders for the Civic Arts Plaza Theater.
He helped prepare the initial architectural design guidelines for the City of Agoura Hills and is currently on their Design Review Board.
Francisco has also been an instructor in U.C.L.A. Extension’s Landscape Architecture Program for the past 38 years.
He received his Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he graduated with highest honors and received the Henry Adams Medal for outstanding Architecture graduate.
Francisco is also a graduate of Glenn Murcutt's Master Class in Sydney, Australia and obtained a Mid-Career Certificate from Harvard University taught by Edward Larrabee Barnes.
Francisco currently serves as the Director of Emerging Professionals for the Ventura County AIA Chapter.
Francisco has lived and worked in Ventura County for over 45 years.
